Finding Hidden Gems

Writing a 250 word blog post for eight bucks seems like a lot of work for little payout, right? And it is, if you simply look at dollars per hour. As with many things, I have learned to let stuff simmer without any input from the editorial part of my brain. This time, it worked better than I imagined.

Reading posts from other freelancers, I came across one which talked about portfolios. They’re a great way to add samples of your writing which someone actually paid for, and I, in my misguided viewpoint of dollars per hour failed to see that those $8 posts were actually a gold mine for me!

WordPress has a nifty little item on the dashboard entitled, oddly enough ‘Portfolio’. With a little extra effort, anything in that portfolio can be linked to a menu called ‘Portfolio’ or frankly, anything you wish to call it. (For now, I went with the obvious choice, but the beauty of a website is that you can change it whenever you see fit, or when a lightbulb goes off over your head and the Universe smacks you with a You idiot! How could you have missed this?)

And so, ladies and gentlemen; after much poking around and what we used to call in the CB world ‘peaking and tweaking’, I give you my new Portfolio menu. The contents are limited at the moment, but I now have a place to show off what I’ve actually sold, and am inspired to take a few more of those less-than-minimum-wage jobs just to be able to show off my talents.

As always, feel free to tell me what you think.
